24K Gold Price Per Gram

Today's 24 karat gold price per gram, ounce and kilogram, live. 24K is pure gold, so its price is the spot price itself. Enter a weight below to value a bar, coin or piece of jewelry.

About 24K gold

24K gold is gold refined to 99.9% purity (stamped 999), with no other metals mixed in. It's the standard for investment bars and many bullion coins, such as the American Gold Buffalo and the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, which are refined to 99.99%.

Pure gold is soft and scratches or bends easily, which is why most jewelry is alloyed down to 22K, 18K or 14K. When a gold price is quoted without a karat, it almost always means 24K.

24K gold price per gram = spot price per gram × 0.999. The live 24K price per gram and per ounce is at the top of this page.

How to calculate the value of gold

Gold jewelry is an alloy, so only part of its weight is gold. Its melt value is the pure gold it contains, priced at the spot price:

purity          = karat ÷ 24         (24K is refined to 99.9%)
pure gold (g) = weight (g) × purity
price per gram = spot price per troy oz ÷ 31.1035
melt value = pure gold (g) × price per gram

So a 14K gold bracelet weighing 10 grams holds 10 × 58.3% = 5.83 grams of pure gold, and is worth 5.83 times today's gold price per gram. That's the floor for what the gold is worth. A shop's price adds design, labor and margin on top, and a scrap buyer's offer usually sits below it.

How to use the gold calculator

  1. 1

    Find the karat

Look for a stamp on the clasp, inside a ring band or on a tag: 10K, 14K, 18K, or a fineness number like 585 or 750. Pick it in the karat menu.

  2. 2

    Weigh the item

Use a jewelry scale in grams if you can. Kitchen-scale ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, kilograms and tola are all supported.

  3. 3

    Subtract anything that isn't gold

Stones, pearls and steel parts add weight but no gold. Enter their weight so they're left out of the value.

  4. 4

    Read the melt value

The calculator multiplies pure gold content by the live spot price. Add a price you were quoted to see how it compares.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 24K gold worth per gram?
24K gold is 99.9% pure gold, so one gram of 24K is worth 0.999 × today's price of a gram of pure gold. The live 24K gold price per gram is at the top of this page and refreshes every minute; switch the currency to see it in euros, pounds, rupees and 14 other currencies.
How do I calculate the value of 24K gold jewelry?
Weigh the piece in grams, subtract anything that isn't gold (stones, pearls, steel springs), then multiply by 0.999 to get grams of pure gold. Multiply that by the spot price per gram for its melt value. The calculator above does all of it once you enter the weight.
What does a 999 stamp mean?
It's the fineness hallmark for 24K gold: parts of pure gold per 1,000. A piece stamped 999 is 99.9% gold, the same as one stamped 24K. Stamps can be wrong or fake, so a jeweler's acid or XRF test is the way to confirm purity before selling.
Is 24K gold the same as the spot price of gold?
Almost. The spot price is quoted for one troy ounce (31.1035 grams) of pure gold, so 24K gold per gram is the spot price divided by 31.1035, then multiplied by 0.999. Buying physical 24K bars or coins costs more than spot because dealers add a premium for fabrication and their margin.
Melt value is an estimate of the gold content only, not an appraisal or an offer, and it isn't financial advice. Karat stamps can be wrong; a jeweler's acid or XRF test confirms purity. Your inputs stay in your browser.
