About 22K gold
22K gold is 22 parts gold to 2 parts other metals, or 91.7% gold, and is stamped 916. It's widely used for jewelry in South Asia and the Middle East, where buyers want a rich yellow color and a high gold content.
It's also the alloy of two of the best-known bullion coins, the American Gold Eagle and the South African Krugerrand. A 1 oz Gold Eagle weighs about 33.93 grams in total, but contains one full troy ounce of pure gold; the extra weight is the copper and silver that make it harder.
22K gold price per gram = spot price per gram × 0.917. The live 22K price per gram and per ounce is at the top of this page.
How to calculate the value of gold
Gold jewelry is an alloy, so only part of its weight is gold. Its melt value is the pure gold it contains, priced at the spot price:
purity = karat ÷ 24 (24K is refined to 99.9%) pure gold (g) = weight (g) × purity price per gram = spot price per troy oz ÷ 31.1035 melt value = pure gold (g) × price per gram
So a 14K gold bracelet weighing 10 grams holds 10 × 58.3% = 5.83 grams of pure gold, and is worth 5.83 times today's gold price per gram. That's the floor for what the gold is worth. A shop's price adds design, labor and margin on top, and a scrap buyer's offer usually sits below it.

How to use the gold calculator
- 1
Find the karat
Look for a stamp on the clasp, inside a ring band or on a tag: 10K, 14K, 18K, or a fineness number like 585 or 750. Pick it in the karat menu.
- 2
Weigh the item
Use a jewelry scale in grams if you can. Kitchen-scale ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, kilograms and tola are all supported.
- 3
Subtract anything that isn't gold
Stones, pearls and steel parts add weight but no gold. Enter their weight so they're left out of the value.
- 4
Read the melt value
The calculator multiplies pure gold content by the live spot price. Add a price you were quoted to see how it compares.

Frequently asked questions
- How much is 22K gold worth per gram?
- 22K gold is 91.7% pure gold, so one gram of 22K is worth 0.9167 × today's price of a gram of pure gold. The live 22K gold price per gram is at the top of this page and refreshes every minute; switch the currency to see it in euros, pounds, rupees and 14 other currencies.
- How do I calculate the value of 22K gold jewelry?
- Weigh the piece in grams, subtract anything that isn't gold (stones, pearls, steel springs), then multiply by 0.9167 to get grams of pure gold. Multiply that by the spot price per gram for its melt value. The calculator above does all of it once you enter the weight.
- What does a 916 stamp mean?
- It's the fineness hallmark for 22K gold: parts of pure gold per 1,000. A piece stamped 916 is 91.7% gold, the same as one stamped 22K. Stamps can be wrong or fake, so a jeweler's acid or XRF test is the way to confirm purity before selling.
- Why is 22K gold jewelry priced higher than the melt value?
- Jewelers add making charges for design and labor on top of the gold's value, and resale buyers deduct refining costs. Use the melt value from this 22K gold calculator as the baseline and compare any quote against it.
