About 10K gold
10K gold is 10 parts gold to 14 parts other metals, or 41.7% gold, stamped 10K or 417. It's the lowest karat that can be sold as "gold" in the United States under the FTC's Jewelry Guides.
With more alloy than gold, 10K is the hardest and most affordable solid gold, which makes it popular for class rings and everyday pieces. It's worth less per gram than higher karats, so weigh it carefully when you sell.
10K gold price per gram = spot price per gram × 0.417. The live 10K price per gram and per ounce is at the top of this page.
How to calculate the value of gold
Gold jewelry is an alloy, so only part of its weight is gold. Its melt value is the pure gold it contains, priced at the spot price:
purity = karat ÷ 24 (24K is refined to 99.9%) pure gold (g) = weight (g) × purity price per gram = spot price per troy oz ÷ 31.1035 melt value = pure gold (g) × price per gram
So a 14K gold bracelet weighing 10 grams holds 10 × 58.3% = 5.83 grams of pure gold, and is worth 5.83 times today's gold price per gram. That's the floor for what the gold is worth. A shop's price adds design, labor and margin on top, and a scrap buyer's offer usually sits below it.
| Karat | Gold content | Fineness stamp |

| 24K gold price | 99.9% | 999 |

| 18K gold price | 75.0% | 750 |
| 14K gold price | 58.3% | 583 or 585 |

How to use the gold calculator
- 1
Find the karat
Look for a stamp on the clasp, inside a ring band or on a tag: 10K, 14K, 18K, or a fineness number like 585 or 750. Pick it in the karat menu.
- 2
Weigh the item
Use a jewelry scale in grams if you can. Kitchen-scale ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, kilograms and tola are all supported.
- 3
Subtract anything that isn't gold
Stones, pearls and steel parts add weight but no gold. Enter their weight so they're left out of the value.
- 4
Read the melt value
The calculator multiplies pure gold content by the live spot price. Add a price you were quoted to see how it compares.

Frequently asked questions
- How much is 10K gold worth per gram?
- 10K gold is 41.7% pure gold, so one gram of 10K is worth 0.417 × today's price of a gram of pure gold. The live 10K gold price per gram is at the top of this page and refreshes every minute; switch the currency to see it in euros, pounds, rupees and 14 other currencies.
- How do I calculate the value of 10K gold jewelry?
- Weigh the piece in grams, subtract anything that isn't gold (stones, pearls, steel springs), then multiply by 0.417 to get grams of pure gold. Multiply that by the spot price per gram for its melt value. The calculator above does all of it once you enter the weight.
- What does a 417 stamp mean?
- It's the fineness hallmark for 10K gold: parts of pure gold per 1,000. A piece stamped 417 is 41.7% gold, the same as one stamped 10K. Stamps can be wrong or fake, so a jeweler's acid or XRF test is the way to confirm purity before selling.
- Is 10K gold worth selling?
- It can be. A heavy 10K chain or class ring can still hold several grams of pure gold. Enter its weight in the calculator to get the melt value, then compare offers from buyers against that number.
