- Which publisher earnings reports are in this directory?
- The directory covers listed news publishers that report digital subscription figures every quarter: The New York Times Company, Dow Jones (the News Corp segment that publishes The Wall Street Journal), USA TODAY Co. (formerly Gannett), and Lee Enterprises. Each quarter shows revenue, digital subscribers, digital subscription revenue, and profit, with a link to the filing.
- Where do the figures come from?
- Every number is copied from the company's own quarterly earnings release, filed with the SEC as Exhibit 99.1 to a Form 8-K. Each card links to that filing. Nothing is estimated: when a release doesn't state a metric, the directory shows Not reported instead of calculating one.
- Why isn't the Financial Times included?
- The Financial Times is owned by Nikkei, which is not publicly listed, so the FT does not publish quarterly earnings reports. The directory only includes publishers whose results are public.
- Why do the quarters not match each company's own labels?
- Publishers use different fiscal years. News Corp's year ends June 30 and Lee's ends in late September, so the quarter News Corp calls fiscal Q4 2026 covers April to June 2026. The directory groups results by the calendar quarter they end in, so you can compare the same months side by side, and shows each company's own fiscal label too.
- Are the subscriber numbers comparable between publishers?
- Not exactly. The New York Times, USA TODAY Co., and Lee report digital-only subscribers at the end of the quarter, while News Corp reports the average number of Wall Street Journal digital-only subscriptions during the quarter. Profit measures also differ, from adjusted operating profit to segment EBITDA. Each card labels the metric the way the company reports it.
- How often is the directory updated?
- New quarters are added after each company releases results, usually four to nine weeks after the quarter ends. Sign up for alerts on this page to get an email when new quarterly reports are added.
