What's inside the media kit template

Pages 01–02Cover & who we areA full-bleed image cover, then your mission opposite the six headline numbers an advertiser checks first.
Pages 03–04Audience & engagementWho they are, where they work, where they engage — then what they read, do next, and show buying intent for.
Pages 05–06Placements & rate cardFour illustrated placement cards, then a full rate table for CPM, flat rate, event, and package pricing.
Pages 07–08Specs, calendar & contactCreative dimensions, deadlines, terms, your editorial calendar, and a closing page that asks for the meeting.

How to use the media kit template

1Pull your real numbersOne month of analytics, your ESP dashboard, and your circulation report. Use a single, consistent period — advertisers notice when the numbers don't line up.
2Make it yoursSet your brand's dark and accent colors, drop in your own photography, and fill every bracketed field. Delete the rows that don't apply rather than leaving them blank.
3Export and date itSave as PDF, name it with the quarter, and refresh it every quarter. Stale audience numbers are the fastest way to lose a renewal conversation.

What is a media kit?

A media kit is the document you send an advertiser to answer three questions in one pass: who reads you, where their message can appear, and what it costs. For most independent publishers it replaces a first sales call entirely — which is why not having one quietly costs deals. This free media kit template covers the pages that matter and nothing else: cover and headline reach, audience detail, placements with a rate card, and creative specs with a contact.

It is deliberately plain. Every field is a bracketed prompt you overwrite, and you set your own colors and photography, so a small newsroom, a trade magazine, and an association newsletter can all use the same skeleton without hiring a designer. Fill it once, refresh the numbers quarterly, and keep the file where your sales conversations start. Media kits win the first meeting; recurring reader and member revenue is what makes the business durable after it — which is where Pelcro comes in.

What advertisers actually look for

Four things get checked before anyone reads your positioning line. Get these right and the rest of the kit is supporting material.

1Audience they can't buy elsewhere

Specificity beats scale. “18,000 hospital procurement managers” outsells “240,000 monthly readers” for most advertisers, because it maps to their buying committee. Lead with the segment you own.

2Numbers with a source and a date

Every stat in the template has room for the tool and period it came from — GA4, your ESP, a circulation audit. Undated numbers read as estimates, and estimates get negotiated down.

3Pricing they can act on

“Contact us for rates” adds a week to the cycle. Publish a starting CPM or flat rate and a package tier, even if every deal is ultimately custom.

4Specs and deadlines in the same file

The agency trafficker needs dimensions, formats, weight limits, and a material deadline. Putting them on the specs page saves an email thread per campaign.

FAQ about media kits.

What should a publisher media kit include?

Four things, in this order: who your audience is with dated numbers; the placements you sell across web, newsletter, print, and events; what they cost; and the creative specs plus a named contact. Everything else — awards, testimonials, editorial calendar — is optional supporting material that belongs after those four.

Is this media kit template free?

Yes. Enter your work email and it's yours, free, with no watermark and no attribution requirement. Use it commercially, edit it, recolor it, and rebrand it.

What format is it in?

Eight widescreen 16:9 pages — the same shape as a slide deck, which is how most media kits are read and forwarded. Edit it in your browser, pick your own colors, drop in your own photography, then print or save as PDF. No design software needed.

Can I use my own brand colors and images?

Yes. The builder lets you set your brand's dark and accent colors, which recolor every page at once, and each image area accepts your own photography by upload or drag-and-drop. Your text and colors are saved in your browser as you work.

How often should I update it?

Quarterly, and always before a renewal cycle. Put the quarter in the filename and in the cover corner so nobody quotes last year's audience back at you.

What if I don't have all the numbers?

Delete the row. A kit with four solid, sourced metrics is more persuasive than one with twelve fields where half are guesses. Add channels back as you start measuring them.

Can I use this for a newsletter or association?

Yes. Newsletter publishers should lead with list size, open rate, and click rate rather than pageviews; associations should lead with membership, event attendance, and sector composition. Both fit the same eight-page structure.

How does Pelcro fit in?

Ad revenue is cyclical; subscriptions and memberships aren't. Pelcro runs the paywall, subscriptions, memberships, and billing behind the audience your media kit describes — so the same readers you sell to advertisers also pay you directly.
